Reflective practice provides a protected space to think rather than react.
Residential staff are regularly exposed to trauma narratives, high-risk behaviour and emotionally charged situations. Without structured containment, teams can experience burnout, inconsistency and relational fragmentation.

Our Approach
We facilitate structured reflective sessions using established reflective models adapted to residential contexts. These sessions support staff to examine complex interactions, recognise emotional responses, analyse decision-making and link experience back to psychological understanding.
Over time, this strengthens empathic consistency, reduces reactive behaviour management, and enhances professional judgement.
What reflective practice achieves
- Improved emotional containment within the team.
- Reduced risk of vicarious trauma (e.g. the emotional and psychological impact of being repeatedly exposed to other people’s traumatic experiences) and burnout.
- Greater consistency in responses to challenging behaviour.
- Stronger alignment between therapeutic model and daily practice.
- Enhanced placement stability.
Reflective consultation can be delivered in group format, leadership sessions or case-specific formulation meetings.
